Everyone steps 6 feet back when someone is about to blow the birthday cake, Passover turned into “Zoom over” and Santa Claus is coming with a face mask through the plexiglass. The pandemic definitely changed the way we approach holidays… yet, in a heartwarming way, gave us even more reason to celebrate life and the ones we love.
As our birthdays do, New Year’s Day provides us the chance to celebrate having made it through another year. And what a year 2020 was!!! Time to raise our glasses and toast to a healthier and hopeful 2021! Hip hip hooray, I say!
This might not be the year of parades, parties with dozens of friends, or even that spontaneous new year’s kiss with a stranger. More likely than not, your guest list will be limited to the people who live in our household. But let’s not downsize the bliss as well. Gatherings may be small, but celebrations should be always grand, nonetheless! At least for all the instagrammable moments!
And with a little bit of planning, you can have an incredible New Year's Eve bash right at home.
Have a zoom party like no other! One of the best ways to start a new year is to laugh and make future common plans with your friends. Have a virtual party and make it sparkle, pouring light and hope in the celebration for a brighter 2021! Have a festive backdrop, sync tunes with friends and dance in your room like there is an awesome tomorrow right around the clock! Togetherness is a feeling, so is joy. Maybe later you can even have a zoom hangover session…
Maybe you can throw a small cocktail party at your home. Everyone in the family can dress up for the night and pretend your dining room is the most extravagant ball in town. Golden toned decor and finger foods can set the soirée mood. Don’t forget to serve elegant cocktails, pouring champagne in a glass requires zero bar skills, but tall glasses make everything look official.
If you are the quiet celebration type - the one who likes to reflect and contemplate the year to come in a less festive way - there's the chill alternative to have a midnight picnic. May it be your backyard or a nearby park with social distancing, a picnic can be intimate and romantic or even a fun event with kids. Watch the fireworks, bring a basket of goods and ponder on life under the stars.
Regardless how you choose to celebrate and in the spirit of global resolution of a better year to come, let’s all welcome 2021!
